In a move that underscores the importance of early childhood development, First National Bank (FNB) has extended its philanthropic arm to the Skukuza Early Child Development (ECD) Centre within the Kruger National Park (KNP).
The donation, which includes new classrooms and a storeroom, was officially accepted by SANParks CEO Hapiloe Sello on Friday.
The Skukuza ECD Centre, a vital educational institution for the children of SANParks employees and residents, has been operating at full capacity with its four existing classrooms.
FNB’s contribution has allowed the centre to add two more classrooms, addressing the growing demand and ensuring that the facility can continue to provide quality education to the park’s youngest residents.

JayPee Louw, SANParks Head of Communications, commented on the significance of the donation: “This generous contribution from FNB is not just about expanding the physical space. It’s about nurturing the potential of every child who walks through our doors. With these additional resources, we can enhance our curriculum and continue to instill a love for conservation and the environment in our future leaders”.

The Skukuza ECD Centre is known for its unique approach to education, integrating environmental themes into its curriculum. Activities such as Ranger Club Day and visits to the indigenous plant nursery are part of the center’s efforts to foster a connection between the children and the natural world around them.

FNB’s involvement in the project is part of a broader commitment to education, as outlined by the CEO of FNB Public Sector Banking, Sipho Silinda: “Education is the cornerstone of development, and we at FNB are dedicated to making a lasting impact in the communities we serve. The Skukuza ECD Centre is a beacon of hope and learning, and we are proud to support its mission.”
The expansion of the Skukuza ECD Centre is a testament to the power of public-private partnerships in advancing educational and developmental goals. With the new facilities, the center is well-positioned to continue its vital role in the community for years to come.
