PROMINENT Lesotho politician, Fako Moshoeshoe has been gunned down in Maseru.
Moshoeshoe, 53, was killed in an altercation with the husband of a woman whose car had bumped into Moshoeshoe’s near HiFi City in Mohalalitoe, near Khubetsoana.
Preliminary reports indicate that the former ruling party, All Basotho Convention (ABC),MP for Mabote constituency, had an altercation with a woman whose vehicle had bumped into his from behind. The woman immediately phoned her husband who arrived in rage and shot the former legislator.
Mosheshoe died instantly and the alleged killer is now in custody at Pitso Ground Police Station.
Moshoeshoe served as the joint chairperson of the ABC Caucus in Parliament and chairperson of the social cluster from 2017 when the ABC became government, until 2021. Around the same time, he was also the chairperson of the TB Caucus and an executive member of the Network of African Parliamentary Committees of Health.
He was a member of the Lesotho Defence Force from 1986 to 2000 when he retired.
Fako left the ABC in 2021 to join the ABC splinter party, the Basotho Action (BAP) Party led by the former ABC former deputy leader, Professor Nqosa Mahao. However, he was also quick to drop the BAP when Prime Minister Sam Matekane formed the now ruling Revolution for Prosperity which he joined in March last year.
