PAARL, South Africa – Paarl United [Ammar Academy] coach Edward Malunga Fiyaka is confident his team can cause some upsets in the Nedbank Cup after they qualified for the last 32.
Ammar made history by becoming the first SAFA Cape Winelands team to reach this stage of the competition, defeating ABC Motsepe League side Maties 1-0 thanks to a goal from Luko ‘Whitey’ Vakala. Fiyaka is excited about the prospect of facing some of the biggest clubs in South Africa in the next round.
“We are ready for war,” he said. “We will respect the teams off the field, but on the field, we will show no respect. We are all equal, and we are ready to cause some upsets.”
Fiyaka has a number of talented players at his disposal, including Babali Katalay, Fu’aad Ahmed, Charles Ezeobi, Odwa Nyulu, and Mustapha Stevens.
Despite their ambitions in the Nedbank Cup, Fiyaka’s primary goal is to win the Hollywoodbets Regional League and gain promotion to the third tier.

“As much as we want to do well in the Nedbank Cup, our ambition as a team is to win the regional league so we can play in the ABC Motsepe League next season,” he said.
“We have a lot of games in hand because we are busy playing Nedbank, but we are more committed to reaching our goal of promotion than the professional ranks.”
The Nedbank Cup draw will take place on December 5, 2023.
