Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association (ZBCA) president, Tinashe Manzungu, has announced that his country has so far implemented over 7 000 construction projects since 2018.
Speaking during the ZBCA Regional Summit, held under the Theme: “Leveraging Investment in Infrastructure as a Catalyst for Economic Growth”, Manzungu said the achievement had brought significant value in the boosting of the country’s infrastructure development.
“In recent years, we have made remarkable strides in the construction sector. Since 2018, over 7 000 projects have been implemented, and more than 5 000 have been officially commissioned. Significant improvements have also been made in our road infrastructure with over 33 000 kilometres of road network completed. This achievement is particularly important as we aim to complete ongoing projects that continue to bolster our national infrastructure,” Dr Manzungu said.
The collective target for ZBCA remained ambitious as the organisation recognised the need for extensive upgrading across all infrastructure projects to support urbanisation, he said.
He noted that Zimbabwe had been constructing new dams since 2021 with the government dedicating US$10 billion for 10 major dams which are part of a long-term plan that will support the agricultural sector and harness water for industrial and domestic use.
However, Dr Manzungu said that this had not yet yielded as planned due to liquidity challenges. ZBCA has therefore ignited a partnership with Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA) to promote public private partnerships that will foster economic growth through construction.
“This is one of the key reasons why we have ignited the ZBCA-ZIDA collaboration, which will see investors linking with your local contractors in public and private infrastructure projects. In the second quarter of 2025, Honourable Vice President (Constantino Chiwenga who was present at the summit), we are expecting investment to the tune of at least USD$100 million worth of projects being done by our members.

“These strategic infrastructure investments are vital in fostering growth, job creation and improved living standards of our people. This is buttressed by the mantra of Vision 2030 of fostering an upper-middle income economy.”
ZBCA was established in 1985 as a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering emergent building contractors across various sectors.
“Our mission is crystal clear: to promote, empower, and capacitate our growing membership while advocating for equity, fairness and justice within the construction sector,” Dr Manzungu said.
