LESOTHO legislator and lawyer, Teboho Mojapela, has just been arrested by the police.

Mojapela, who leads the Socialists Revolutionary (SR) party, was arrested upon entry into Lesotho at Maseru Bridge from his Ladybrand home. He was on his way to parliament when he was taken in.

However, Police minister, Lebona Lephema, told parliament this afternoon that Mojapela had not been arrested. Instead, the police needed clarity regarding his security detail which escorts him in a six-car motorcade with heavily armed personnel. Lephema said Mojapela was “assisting” the police on the matter.

Police spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Kabelo Halahala, confirmed that Mojapela was at police headquarters in Maseru. He, however, refused to give details.

Mojapela’s SR is one of the opposition parties supporting the no confidence motion filed against Prime Minister Sam Matekane. The motion, which was filed last Friday, has been deferred pending a constitutional court litigation challenging the deliberations of said motion.
