GABORONE, Botswana – The Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) has announced the installation of e-gates at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (SSKIA), marking a significant step towards enhancing efficiency and operational excellence at the country’s main airport.

The new self-service machines are set to streamline the passenger processing experience, particularly by reducing long queues at security screening points. The e-gates, located at the international departure security screening points, will also verify the security of boarding passes, ensuring smoother and faster transitions for travellers.
The e-gates will be operational from Thursday, February 13, 2025, with airport staff on hand to assist passengers who may need help navigating the new system. This initiative is part of CAAB’s broader efforts to modernise and improve the travel experience at SSKIA.

In addition to the e-gates, CAAB has announced plans for centralised passenger screening and baggage handling, which is expected to be implemented by mid-March 2025. This further move is aimed at increasing operational efficiency for both international and domestic departures.

The introduction of these innovative technologies at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport reinforces Botswana’s commitment to enhancing its air travel infrastructure and providing a seamless experience for both travellers and airport staff.
