The football family is mourning breaking news circulated that Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs passed away after he was gunned down on Wednesday in a botched robbery in Gauteng.

As it’s still a breaking news story, various media outlets suggest that the Cape Town-born central defender was shot in Florida during a robbery that went wrong.

Fleurs was shot and killed in a botched hijacking or robbery incident on Wednesday and the breaking news was confirmed by a source close to Kaizer Chiefs.

TimesLIVE reports that Gauteng police spokesperson Lt-Col Mavela Masondo said late on Wednesday night he had not received any official report on the incident yet.

BREAKING: CHIEFS DEFENDER DIES FROM HORRIBLE HIJACKING

The daily publication has it that Chiefs corporate communications manager Vina Maphosa said the club could not comment on the breaking news and matter yet.

“Fleurs, 24, joined Chiefs as a free agent in October having been released by previous club SuperSport United in September,” reports TimesLIVE.

“Fleurs played 70 times for SuperSport, who he joined from first division Ubuntu FC in 2018. The centreback was yet to earn game time at Chiefs.”

Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs has tragically passed after being shot during a hijacking.

I cannot believe this after seeing him a few days ago, incredibly sad moment, my heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.
