MADRID (Reuters) – Liverpool’s Portuguese forward Diogo Jota died in car crash near Zamora, in northwestern Spain, Spanish state-owned TV station said on Thursday, citing local firefighters.
Although details are still scarce, according to Marca, Jota and his brother Andre, also a professional footballer, both died when the vehicle they were travelling in came off the road in the province of Zamora and burst into flames.

The 28-year-old Jota joined the Reds from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2020 – and went on to make 182 appearances, winning two Premier League titles in the process. Although his career was troubled by injuries that saw him off the pitch for long periods, Jota is part of Liverpool’s most successful sides of recent years after winning most of the trophies on offer with former coach, Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
He scored Liverpool’s first goal of the 24/25 season coached by Dutch manager, Arne Slot, who went on to lead the side to its 20th league title.
