JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – This past weekend, Kwa Mai Mai reverberated with excitement as hundreds of aspiring musicians gathered for the inaugural regional auditions of the groundbreaking music competition show, uShuni Womhlaba.
From 21 June to 23 June, talented artists from across Gauteng converged at the vibrant venue, vying for a coveted spot in the highly anticipated show set to premiere on SABC 1 on 7 July 2024.
The air was filled with the rich sounds of Maskandi, Afro-pop, Isicathamiya, and Mbhaqanga as contestants performed before the show’s esteemed judges and presenters. Among the panel were renowned artists Big Zulu, Sho Madjozi, Msaki, Phuzekhemisi, and Lucky Nkosi. Some contestants received standing ovations, showcasing their exceptional abilities.
The show’s hosts, Mpumi “Msakazi” Mlambo and Mandla “Njinji Wami” Magwaza, held the stage with superstar flair, adding to the electric atmosphere.
Thabo Mphelo, Executive Producer of uShuni Womhlaba and founder of Thabo Mphelo Films, expressed his excitement about the show’s potential to unearth South Africa’s top musical talents.
“uShuni Womhlaba is a trailblazer in the music competition scene,” said Mphelo. “The caliber of musicians who auditioned demonstrates that South Africa is brimming with talent. We eagerly anticipate the upcoming regional auditions in Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga, and Kwa-Zulu Natal.”
