MASERU, Lesotho – Riders, Malefetsane Lesofe (Lesotho) and Augustin Douillet (France) will this Thursday embark on a daring six-day trip to the Indian Ocean in Durban in an attempt to raise funds to assist a school for less fortunate children.
The duo is expecting to raise M280 000 to purchase a school bus for Sepheo School in Maseru. The new purchase, will replace a 30-year-old bus that is being used to transport learners.

The riders told the press Tuesday that they would spend three days cycling in Lesotho and exit the country via Sani Pass. They are expecting to spend another three days before reaching Durban’s Scottburgh, on the shores of the Indian Ocean, some 650 kilometres away.
“Sepheo School is a free primary school welcoming the most marginalised children, victims of trauma, abuse, or living on the streets,” reads a statement from the riders.
“Through an approach combining education and psycho-social support, each child progresses at its own pace while healing from past wounds. Sepheo’s social work team also intervenes within families to break cycles of violence and abandonment.
“Each student receives comprehensive support: schooling, meals, uniforms, transportation, and personalized guidance. By the end of their journey, these children find a stable home, a new identity, and a future to build.”
Sepheo collects the children from different villages of Maseru to the school and the busy is now needs to be replaced.

So far, M90 000 has been raised for the cause.

Indiscipline killing Lesotho enterprises – minister Shelile
Born in Maseru, Lesotho said during his childhood, he encountered challenges similar to those faced by the children catered for by Sepheo.
His cycling passion led him into becoming a professional rider. Now an internationally recignised mountain biker, Lesofe works for Sepheo as a riding coach where he grooms aspiring riders at a local pump track.

On the other hand, French national, Douillet, is a father of three who believes cycling is more than a sport and that it “can move mountains”.
He is the initiator of the project who wants to use cycling to positively impact on the children.
